Dear St. John’s Family,
Kim and I greatly appreciate the love and support that we have felt from you at this
difficult time in our lives. While it may be a natural part of the life cycle to attend a parent’
s funeral, it is not easy.
Dad and Mom touched so many people while at St. John’s. As wonderful as that affiliation
has been, Kim and I are adjusting to life without our Dad. He taught all of us well through
his day to day example just as much as through his sermons. If there is anything that I hope
to take with me into the future because of Dad’s influence, it would be this: Christian love
and integrity. God works out in each of us how that phrase manifests itself. Sometimes one
person’s Christian love and integrity is in conflict with that of another person. Dad
recognized this and managed to bring people with opposing interpretations together through
the example of his life.
Friends and Members of St. John’s, whether you were there during his time or have come
along since then, you are blessed to have had him as you rector and Sheppard for over forty
years and to call him “Father.” Kim and I are blessed to know that for all of our days past,
present and future, we will be able to call him “Dad.” Furthermore, we are blessed to know
that in St. John’s, no matter where life takes each of us in the future, Kim and I have a
Christian home on the hill.
Kim and I would especially like to thank Father John, Barrie Parker, and the many people
who contributed their time and energy to make Dad’s funeral a celebration of his life. We
are extremely grateful for your prayers, cards, kind words and generosity at this time in
our lives.
Peace.
Kim and Chris
