Following Dad's "graduation from this earth"
which occurred at 11:35 pm, Kim and I met and
sat in the room for a few minutes. At about
12:45am, all of the available nursing staff joined
us in the room. They asked for permission to
perform a brief "Celebration of Life" ceremony.
This butterfly sheet was placed over Dad's body as
a bed sheet would be placed. A lite chime was
heard over the intercom system followed the words
"Edward Battin 504 Bed One."
Prayers of thanksgiving were offered along with
the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm. This was
an awesome experience as the staff shared with us
in our loss. The sheet was still on the bed when
Kim and I came in on Tuesday to gather Dad's
belongings.
I know people who see Christianity as one religion
among and equal to many others. I am thankful
for moments like this that remind us that
Christianity is more about relationship with our
LORD and less about religion.
